quadrant ratchet

The device used in some cable-operated clutches to provide self-adjustment as the clutch disc wears. Some adjust if you lift up on the clutch pedal.


quality

A characteristic of excellence or superiority of kind.


quench area

The narrow area between the top of the piston at top dead center and the cylinder head; also known as the squish area.


quenched

The state in a combustion chamber in which the flame cannot burn because of cold surfaces or poor distribution of the fuel mixture.


quick take-up master cylinders

Master cylinders used on disc brake systems that are equipped with low-drag brake calipers to quickly move the brake pads into contact with the brake rotors.


quick take-up valve

A valve used to release excess pressure from the larger piston in a quick take-up master cylinder once the brake pads have contacted the brake rotors.
