P material

A material with a movable positive charge.


P-flash

(program flash) A category of reprogramming or memory update of only the program information in an ECU or microcontroller.


parallel alternators

The practice of connecting alternators in parallel to provide higher charging voltage at idle with more available amperage.


parallel circuit

A circuit in which all branch components are connected directly to the voltage supply.


parallel drive

A vehicle in which both the engine and electric motor work together, blending motor and engine torque, to propel the vehicle.


parallel joint arrangement

Two or more universal joint arrangements where the joint angles form parallel lines; a method of angle cancellation for use with parallel angles. Also known as the waterfall arrangement.


parallel wiring

A type of custom-made wiring harness that encloses multiple conductors into a single vinyl insulator covering.


parallelogram

A design element in suspension systems to keep the wheels or the axles in alignment throughout suspension articulation.


parasitic draw

Unwanted drain on the vehicle battery when the vehicle is off; also called key-off electrical load.


parasitic loss

An unnecessary load on the engine that wastes fuel.
