P–N junctionThe intersection between N- and P-type semiconductor materials.
paddlesShifting mechanisms or electronic controls, usually attached to the steering wheel.
pairingConnecting the customer’s phone to the infotainment system. Some systems require inputting a code that appears on the phone to complete the connection.
pan inspectionThe process of removing the transmission pan to check for clutch material, metal, and other debris or contaminants.
panhard rodA metal rod or bar that is mounted between the body or frame of the vehicle and the axle. It controls suspension movement side to side; also known as a transverse torque rod.
parallax errorA visual error caused by viewing measurement markers at an incorrect angle.
parallel flow condensersCondensers with multiple parallel tubes flowing from one side tank to the other.
parallelismThe difference in thickness of the parallel friction surfaces; also called thickness variation. This is the biggest cause of pedal pulsation.
parallelogram steering systemA non–rack-and-pinion system that uses a series of parts, consisting of the pitman arm, idler arm, center link, and tie-rod assemblies to relay movement from the steering gearbox to the wheel assembly.
