half shaftsAxles that have constant-velocity joints on each end and that fit between the transaxle and the wheel. Typically, one is used on each side of a vehicle. | |
halogen lampA type of incandescent lamp that is filled with a halogen gas such as bromine or iodine. | |
hard rubber malletA special-purpose tool with a head made of hard rubber; often used for moving things into place where it is important not to damage the item being moved. | |
hard shiftingA shifting problem in which the shifter will not move smoothly into the desired gear, requiring excessive force by the driver to set it into gear. | |
hard steeringWhen it is difficult for the driver to turn the steering wheel. There may be a problem in the power steering system, too much positive caster, or binding in the steering system. | |
hardened seatA valve seat that has undergone a heat-treating process to become more robust and capable of withstanding the severe demands of today’s vehicles and drivers. | |
harmonic balancerA round metal disc connected to the front of the crankshaft. It smooths out torsional vibrations created by the crankshaft. | |
hatchbackA vehicle that has a shared passenger and cargo area; it typically is available in three- and five-door arrangements. | |
hazardAnything that could hurt you or someone else. | |
