C

C-channel

C-shaped steel beam that is the most common frame rail in heavy trucks.


C-train

A combination vehicle similar to an A-train but using a convertor dolly that has two parallel drawbars.


cab forward (CF)

A tractor with the engine located ahead of the cab.


cab harness

The harness that connects the shift selector to the electronic control unit.


calibration

A process of refining data used by a control system to optimize system performance.


caliper piston

A hydraulic device that uses pressure from the master cylinder to apply the brake pads against the rotor.


calorie

The unit of energy that reflects the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1° C.


cam brakes

 An “S”-shaped shaft head that twists between two rollers to expand a set of brake shoes.


cam-opposite

A cam brake where the cam rotates opposite the drum’s rotation to energize the brakes.


cam-over conditions

When the linings and or brake components are worn enough to allow the cam to rotate past the rollers.
