FAT3 Glossary

A fuel that is 100% biodiesel.

A fuel that is 20% biodiesel blended with 80% petrodiesel.

The area or space behind the piston rings when the rings are in the piston ring grooves.

A metal plate to which the brake lining is fixed.

The required clearance between two meshing gears.

Metal plates that are welded into the oil sump. These plates help keep the oil at the oil pickup screen when the vehicle is cornering, braking, or accelerating hard.

Metal shafts attached and located inside the engine cylinder block assembly to counteract crankshaft vibrations.

An atom with an equal number of protons and electrons, which cancel each other out so that the atom has no overall charge.

An assembly of metal rods, with abrasive stones attached, that is inserted into the cylinder and spun to break the glazing off the cylinder walls and make a new crosshatch pattern.

Swivel connections mounted in the outer end of the front control arm. These swivels are constructed with a ball and socket to allow pivoting.
